Chennai: In a freak accident, a baby travelling with his parents in an auto on MTH Road, Villivakkam, died.

According to the police, three-month-old Yogesh Raj was in the auto with his parents Velan (42) and Archana (28). The family lives on 46th Street, SIDCO Nagar, Villivakkam.

On Friday, at 10 pm, the trio was returning from a relative’s house at  Teynampet with Velan at the wheel.

The police said a motorcyclist riding in front of the auto skidded and fell. Velan who did not want to run over the biker took a turn. Unfortunately, the child fell out of the vehicle.

Even as Velan and Archana escaped with minor injuries, Yogesh suffered injuries on his ears and nose and died. His body has been sent to the Government Kilpauk Medical Hospital for postmortem.

The police said Velan has been taken into custody for the death of his son, under section 304 (A).
