Chennai: With uncertainty prevailing over Vijayakanth-led DMDK joining the AIADMK alliance for the upcoming general elections, State Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, said, “We will be happy if the DMDK becomes our ally. But, we won’t be worried if they don’t.”
Jayakumar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the morning meal scheme at a school in Tiruvanmiyur.
He said, “Premalatha (DMDK treasurer) has talked about their party’s strength and about contesting elections alone. It is their party and their choice and they can talk however they want.”
Premalatha had said alliance talks were being held with major parties and politics discussed with leaders who called on Vijayakanth.
She also said the DMDK will chalk out its plan and score a massive victory in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Recalling what Congress leader S Thirunavukkarasar told the media after meeting Vijayakanth at his Saligramam residence, she said when two leaders meet, other issues would also be discussed.
She said electoral alliance cannot be decided in a hurry while the DMDK has not hesitated to go it alone.
Jayakumar told mediapersons, “But, according to me, the doors are always open for all parties to enter into an alliance with the AIADMK. We are in talks with many, including the DMDK. If they come, we will be happy, if not we won’t be worried.”
Talking about their alliance with the BJP and PMK, Jayakumar said, “We may have ideological differences with our partners. But, we will work together and win all 40 seats. Our alliance is a mega alliance. In the wild-flood we created, people like T T V Dinakaran have been washed away.”
