Chennai: The verdict on the two-leaves symbol of the AIADMK is to be delivered this afternoon in the Delhi High Court.
Now Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T T V Dhinakaran and his aunt and general secretary of the party, V K Sasikala, had moved the court against granting the two-leaves symbol of the AIADMK to the Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam-led faction.
Appearing for Sasikala and Dhinkaran, senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had no locus standi to remove them from the AIADMK. He said the Election Commission of India, due to political compulsions, had ruled in favour of the AIADMK and did not give enough time for Sasikala-Dhinakaran to present all documents.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Palaniswami and Panneerselvam, placed counter-arguments and defended the action of the Election Commission. He said the commission had given enough opportunities for both sides to present their case and had allotted the symbol to AIADMK only after that.
After the arguments concluded 8 February, the judges reserved judgement without announcing the date of delivery of the verdict. They had indicated that they will try to deliver the judgement in four weeks’ time.
In such a situation, the Delhi High Court had said the verdict would be pronounced this afternoon.
