After a gap of eight years, the State government announced the Kalaimamani awards. This year, 201 artistes are to receive the awards, including Vijay Sethupathi, Karthi and Yuvan Shankar Raja.
According to an official statement, “Each winning artist will receive a 3 sovereign gold shield and a certificate.”
In addition, shields for the best art organisations are to be awarded to Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, and the Salem Amateur Arts in Salem.
Kalaimamani awards are given away by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram (literature, music and theatre) for excellence in the field of art and literature.
