Chennai: The city police arrested Vinod (27), a resident of Masoodi Street, Guindy for stabbing a woman in public view last night at Vandikaran Street.
According to the police, the victim Revathi (45), worked for a private firm and lived with her two daughters in Narasingapuram, Guindy. Her husband Ramachandran passed away four years ago.
The family had decided to marry her daughter Jeevitha to Vinod. However, two months ago, Jeevitha decided not to proceed with the marriage as she was not happy with Vinod’s behaviour.
Vinod who did not take it well began creating problems for the family. Subsequently, Revathi lodged a police complaint against Vinod. Last night, Vinod met Revathi at Vandikaran Street while she was returning home from work.
After an argument, he took a knife and stabbed her on the neck and chest. Revathi died on the spot. Police arrested Vinod early this morning at Guindy. Inspector Sivakumar is carrying out further investigations.
