Chennai: Having made its India debut only last week, music streaming service Spotify clocked more than one million unique users in the country.
These numbers include users across the free and premium tiers.
Spotify’s premium plans in India start at Rs 13 for a day and go all the way up to Rs 1,189 (around $ 17) for a year. The streaming service also has weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans in its catalogue. And it also offers 50 per cent discount to the students.
Those who are not willing to pay can continue to use the ad-supported version for free.
Spotify’s been late to come to India and will face competition from international players like Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Amazon Prime Music.
However, Spotify’s biggest competitors are local streaming services like JioSaavn, Gaana, and Hungama that have a huge market share in the country.
