Chennai: Customs officials seized 1.4 kg gold and foreign currencies worth Rs 5.5 lakh from eight passengers who
arrived at the Anna international airport from abroad and arrested them today.
Airport sources said the value of the seized gold was worth Rs 50 lakh. The passengers, who smuggled the gold and foreign currencies, have arrived from Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Dubai.
The foreign currencies were meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka, the sources said. All the eight passengers were arrested and were being interrogated.
