Chennai: The city police arrested two juveniles for attacking a man for his valuables and leaving him to die on the railway track at Pazhavanthangal.
According to the police, on 3 March, at 10 pm, the Railway Police found the body of man who was run over by a train on Pazhavangthangal track. Since his face was badly injured, the identity of the man could not be traced. The case was transferred to Mambalam Railway Police.
During inquiries, one of the residents came forward as a witness and narrated a shocking incident. He told police that while standing on the terrace of his house, he saw young men following a middle-aged man on the platform. The duo assaulted him and he fell from the platform to the track. Following this, they robbed his phone, watch and wallet and fled the place. The victim could not get up from the place and was run over by a train.
Railway DSP Edward and Tamabram Railway Inspector Kalaivani investigated the case and identified the victim as Kumar (55) of Moulivakkam. He was an employee of the city airport. His body was handed over to the family.
Police also arrested two juveniles, aged 17, who murdered him. Police recovered the watch and the phone. However, the juveniles claimed they spent the money taken from the victim.
