Review: Kabilavasthu – Docu-drama

Amidst commercial cliches and action-movies comes Kabilavasthu. Written, directed and enacted by Nesam Murali, the movie is about a bunch of people who fail to prove their identity as the citizens of this country face stringent action from police. A serious issue handled by the director.

It also tries to speak about the lives of platform dwellers who are ignorant about leading their lives.

The difficulties faced by them and survival of the fittest amongst them have been touched upon in the movie. The film though gives one a documentary feel, it can be appreciated for speaking about an issue loud. Nesam Murali’s acting and some of his dialogues add strength to the script.

All the artistes have done their part well. However a feeling of watching a documentary could have been avoided by the filmmaker.
Remember Nesam Murali had earlier directed Kollidam, a film on the lives of the Narikuravar community. The movie was screened for President Ram Nath Kovind recently. The President lauded the efforts to bring to light the lives of the platform dwellers. The team members say that the President promised to look into the issue and do the needful.
