Due to climate change and rejuvenation works that are going on in neighbourhood water bodies, add to it failed monsoon, major reservoirs including Madipakkam lake, Moovarasampet lake and Sitheri lake are all dried up.
Hence, residents of the locality requested the authorities to come up with solutions to fight water scarcity. In Moovarasampet, residents requested the sitting MLA, T M Anbarasan, having met him on Thursday, to dig borwells and wells across the area.
Secretary of Federation of Moovarasampet Welfare Association (FMWA), Babu GP, said, “We have requested the MLA to install seven borewells and wells to address the need for water.”
“The MLA said he will either allot cash from the constituency fund or will ask the Collector to address the need at the earliest,” Babu added.
When contacted, Anbarasan said, “The Alandur constituency has a total of seven panchayats, including Moovarasampet. I have allotted Rs 1 crore for the works to progress. The works to instal borewells will be started by this week. Meanwhile, water will be supplied to houses through cans from the RO plant that was installed recently in the locality.”
