People want change in Centre, State: TTV

Chennai: AMMK founder T T V Dhinakaran said his party’s support at the Centre will be for a secular party.

Speaking to reporters after releasing the party’s manifesto Friday, he said, “Secular party does not necessarily mean Congress alone. Even Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati are secular leaders. AMMK MPs who will be elected with the support of the people, will ensure the formation of secular front coming to power at the Centre,” he said.

He added that people are keen to have a change in government, both at the Centre and in the State. “In 2014, people wanted a change after being tired of the Congress-led government and they voted for BJP. Now, again they want a change. Only regional parties like AMMK will be able to take care of the interests of the State,” he said.

The party’s manifesto released by him earlier in the day highlighted on agriculture, water management and inter linking of rivers. “No industry that impacts agriculture or environment will be allowed in the State. Cauvery Delta will be declared as protected agriculture zone. Projects like methan extraction or hydrocarbon or gas pipleines will never be allowed to come up in that region,” he said.
