Coimbatore: A huge fire broke out in a garbage dumping yard near Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, yesterday and the Indian Air Force deployed a helicopter to put it out.
The fire began on Sunday evening. Even though over 20 fire-tenders tried to douse the flames, it was not successful. Following this, the service of the Mi017 V5 helicopter for aerial spraying of water was sought by thedistrict administration.
The aerial firefighting operation is currently underway with the use of Bambi buckets, which can carry a maximum of 3,500 litres of water at once. The nearly 15 acres of the yard was enveloped in thick smoke, said media reports.
