Chennai: The scrutiny of nominations filed by the candidates to contest in the Lok Sabha elections and by-poll for the 18 Assembly constituencies in Tamilnadu began today.
Nominations of South Chennai candidates, DMK’s Thamizhachi Thangapandian and AIADMK’s J Jayavardhan, Central Chennai’s candidates, DMK’s Dayanidhi Maaran and PMK’s Sam Paul were accepted.
The scrutiny of DMK’s Thoothukudi candidate Kanimozhi was stopped till 1.30 as she had not filled the B-2 form. Similarly, the constituency’s BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan’s nomination was also withheld as she did not mention about being the director of Bharath Petroleum, her husband’s income and her criminal record.
Meanwhile, Manamadurai constituency Makkal Needhi Maiam candidate Ramakrishnan’s nomination was rejected as he had not signed a form. On the last day yesterday, 1,236 people filed their nominations out of which 1,098 are men, 136 are women and two are transpersons.
