A Thirukkural recitation competition organised by Dharmapura Atheena Madalayam in North Usman Road, Chennai, recently saw over 150 students from 10 city schools, take part and win prizes.
A press release said, Madras High Court, Lok Adalat, Judge, Justice Dr TN Vallinayagam, presided over the event and distributed prizes to the winners of different categories.
Scholar Dr Cheyon who was present as special guest, felicitated the winners and highlighted the necessity to learn Thirukkural to lead a happy and peaceful life.
Among the winners, BS Mootha Jain Higher Secondary School, West Mambalam, bagged the special shield for having sent more number of students for the competition.
Speaking to this paper, poet Vijayalakshmi, one of the co-ordinators who also takes free Thirukkural classes at the madalayam, said, “The response was overwhelming and children were enthusiastic in reciting. Apart from the contest, they can also attend the free classes conducted here and enrich themselves.”
