Thanks to the sustained efforts and representations of residents from various streets surrounding Rameswaram Road, the proposal to shift two fair price shops HC 007 and HC 0009, has been dropped.
Speaking about this, a member of the T Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, which took up the matter with authorities said, “Following reports about the shifting of the two ration shops, which cater to the requirements of residents of various streets in the locality, our forum took up the issue with officials of Civil Supplies, TUCS and the Joint Registrar, Public Distribution System.”
“As a consequence to constant follow-ups, aided, of course, by the reports in print media, which highlighted the residents’ ire against the move, an official from the Joint Registrar, visited the shop to take stock of the situation. All this has led the authorities to put up a board here stating that the outlets will continue to function from the same premises,” he said.
The shops are said to serve residents of several streets like Ramanathan Street, Rangan Street and Mangesh Street for several decades and the sudden proposal to shift them, had brought anguish among many.
