Chennai: A decision on cancellation of polling in Vellore Lok Sabha constituency and by-election in Ambur and Gudiyattam Assembly constituencies will be taken by Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said today.
Speaking to the media here, he said, “We will send separate reports on seizure of money to the election observers, Income Tax department, police and Chief Election Commissioner. Based on that, the ECI will take final decision.”
He was talking about the seizure of crores of rupees of cash from multiple places in Vellore on Monday. Meanwhile, a group of ECI officials headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora was set to reach the city later today.Ā Sources said the team will camp in the city till Thursday.
The team will take part in an all-party meeting today evening. They will meet District Collectors, SPs and other senior State officials to discuss the election preparedness tomorrow.
