Meerut: A video of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vineet Agarwal Sharda addressing a public rally in Meerut went viral Tuesday.

According to news agency ANI, the rally was held 1 April and in the video, Vineet can be heard repeating ‘Kamal’ (lotus, BJP symbol) several times.

“Aapko sochna hoga ki kamal chahiye ya kya chahiye,’ (You will have to think whether you want kamal or something else) he says in the video, before repeating, ‘Kamal, Kamal, Kamal…’ over 40 times at a stretch in the one-minute video, leaving the audience amused.

In his speech, Vineet urged people to vote for Rajendra Aggarwal for the third time in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. He added if they do so, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanth would come as the reincarnation of Lord Ram and Laxman, respectively.

The voting for 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases and Meerut will be going to polls in the first phase, 11 April. Counting for the election is scheduled for 23 May.

Meerut constituency comprises five Assembly segments: Kithore, Meerut Cantonment, Meerut, Meerut and Hapur.

In the 2014 election, Rajendra Agarwal had won by a margin of 2,32,326 votes defeating his nearest rival Mohammad Shahid Akhlak of the Bahujan Samaj Party. While Agarwal had secured 5,32,981 votes, Akhlak had bagged 3,00,655 votes. Agarwal had won from Meerut in 2009 too after winning 2,32,137 votes. At the second spot was Bahujan Samaj Party’s Malook Nagar who secured 1,84,991 votes.

In 2014, 60.51 per cent or 11,13,671 voters exercised their franchise in Meerut.
