Artistes in Chennai honoured on World Theatre Day

Bharat Kalachar honoured dramatists selected for Kalaimamani award by the State.

It was an evening of ‘high drama’, at Bharat Kalachar, Thirumalai Road, a few days ago, when theatre forums like Bharat Kalachar, Tamil Stage Drama Producers’ Association and Theatre Maham honoured five dramatists such as Suppini, TV Varadharajen, Kudanthai Mali, CV Chandramohan and Crazy Balaji, all nominated by State for Kalaimamani award, at the YGP Auditorium.

A press release said, the artistes were presented with a shawl and gift as token of appreciation for them being selected for the State honour.

Film director Cheran graced the occasion and felicitated the awardees. He spoke about the greatness of drama which has produced plenty of world famous actors in the film industry.

“The event was made possible, courtesy Theatre Maham’s Madhuvanthi (daughter of actor Y Gee Mahendra) who floated the idea of honouring the artistes even before the State does so,” the release added.

The Tamil play ‘Perumale’ too was staged at the auditorium.
