Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, ten women workers were buried alive and one was injured when a mound of mud caved in on them at a village in Narayanpet district of Telangana.
The women were working under the MNREGA scheme at Tileru village around 11.15 am when the incident happened. All the 12 women labourers were having lunch at the site when a mound of earth fell on them and they were buried under six to eight feet of mud. The victims were employed under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme and were involved in digging earth as part of trench work.
One other woman was injured and one escaped safely. Expressing shock and anguish over the incident, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the incident was unfortunate and ordered officials to provide all help to the injured and bereaved families.
