Chennai: “US always welcomes Indian students to pursue education. It is a fantastic place to seek incredible opportunities and make life long friends,” said Consular Chief of US Consulate General Chennai, Kent May during the student visa 2019 session held here Thursday.
Parents and students participated in the event. Kent was accompanied by Vice-Consul, Christine Saclarides.
“American universities offer wonderful diversity. One out of every six international students is an Indian,” Kent said.
During the session, the officials gave a brief about the student visa application process and answered queries pitched by students and other participants who viewed the interaction live online.
Sooner the better
Officials urged students to apply for visa as soon as possible. “The sooner you do it, the better. It is also essential that you do not make travel plans before you get your visa approved,” Kent said.
Interested students who wish to pursue education in US can access step-by-step information on how to apply for a visa at www.ustravelsdocs.com and also access ceac.state.gov/genniv/ to fill visa application form. A press release said, visa related queries can be emailed to consulate officials at [email protected]
Give credible answer
Throughout the session, Christine stressed the importance of giving ‘credible and honest’ answers during the visa interview. “There is no magic document that needs to be presented during the interview,” she said. “You should be able to answer how you will manage your finances during your stay. You know the answer to this question. So, there is nothing to be scared about.”
