Chennai: Supreme Court today said special officer Pon Manickavel can continue to investigate the idol theft cases.
The court however said Manickavel cannot arrest anyone during the investigation and only the newly appointed IG Abhay Kumar Singh has that power.
The verdict was delivered while hearing a petition filed by the State government seeking the cancellation of Madras High Court’s verdict which stayed the transfer of all idol theft cases to CBI.
The Madras High Court also allowed Manickavel to continue investigation in the cases for one year even after his retirement. The SC also upheld MHC’s stay order transferring the cases to CBI.
