Chennai: There is a post box at the intersection of Kamarajar Salai and Krishna Nagar Fourth Street, Virugambakkam, which is in a pathetic condition, say nearby residents.
“Letter boxes are a part of our social life, where through letters we get an opportunity to express and communicate with known people,” said Rajalingam, a resident of Krishna Nagar.
He further said though there is a steep decline in writing letters, with the advent of emails and WhatsApp, still a post office and a letter drop box are very essential, which nobody can deny. “I request the authorities that this letter box in our area, which is corroded and dirty, be replaced with a new one,” he said.
The post box hangs from a lamp post and it is totally damaged as it has not seen paint for quite a few years. “Usually, a letter box is painted with timings of clearance of letters. Here it is not seen. We wonder whether letters are dropped in this box or not,” said residents.
Parthasarathy, a resident of AVM Nagar, said the location of the post office near the Vembuliamman Koil Street is far away for them. Also, it is located on the first floor and residents have to climb around 30 steps, which is an ordeal for senior citizens. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the area gets inundated even after brief showers, he said.
He further said the officials should shift the post office to nearby location and replace the damaged letter box at Virugambakkam.
