Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami yesterday announced a relief of Rs three lakh would be given to the family of the seven-year-old Coimbatore girl who was murdered after being sexually abused. The incident had caused a state-wide outrage.

The chief minister expressed his grief and recalled that one person, Santhosh, has been arrested in connection with the incident. HE further assured that due legal punishment would be given to the accused.

“I have directed that a sum of Rs three lakh be provided to them from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund,” said a statement issued by him.

The minor girl went missing on 24 March and was later found murdered near her house. The postmortem report revealed she was subjected to sexual assault more than once. A man identified as Santhosh was arrested.
