Chennai: Popular Tamil evening daily Maalai Sudar, the sister publication of News Today, enters into its 25th year of continuous publication today.

Having published its first copy from Chennai in 1995, the daily, which has stepped into its silver jubilee year, has received wishes from leaders and well-wishers the world over.

Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit in his letter to News Today and Maalai Sudar Group Editor T R Jawahar, said, “Press and media as the fourth pillar of democracy has been contributing a lot to the growth and development of the country. It is a matter of pride and satisfaction that the vision of T R Ramaswami (TRR, Founder-Editor of News Today), who was hailed for his contribution to the Indian Federation of Working Journalists, has been realised.”

“I greet Maalai Sudar as its steps into the 25th year and wish that this evening daily meets with all success in all its endeavours,” said the Governor.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said in his greetings, “Maalai Sudar was launched in 1994 by Amma (former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa). It is commendable that the publication has been with a neutral stance and as the answer to the hard work put in, it is celebrating its silver jubilee this year with support from the masses. The organisation has been without fail bringing out news about the schemes implemented by the government in simple language and I wish the publication further growth in readership across the State.”

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said in his message, “At a time when starting a daily is seen as a feat in itself, Maalai Sudar entering its 25th year is a Himalayan task. It is said the pen is mightier than the sword and the evening daily has proved it true. The publication has eroded social evil with its ‘sudar’ (light) over the years. I extend my heartfelt wishes to the publication to reach further heights.”

PMK founder S Ramadoss said, “T R Ramaswami would be one among top 10 leaders of Tamil print media. He was gifted with the talent of successfully writing political articles in both Tamil and English. In his way, his son T R Jawahar has become a notable person in the industry and has been running a publication in testing world. I wish Maalai Sudar to continue in its feat and reach a hundred years of service to the industry.”

AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran in his greetings, said, “The whole nation would suffer if any one pillar of democracy is affected. Media is described as the fourth pillar of the nation. Running an evening daily is a tough task and I congratulate the Editor M Subramanian and his team for the great work. Launched by ‘Amma’, I wish the paper many more feats on behalf of my party.”

Tamil Manila Congress chief G K Vasan, said, “Among various publications in the State, Maalai Sudar has taken a special place among readers. It has been publishing articles on all fronts and has been excelling in bringing out news to the people. The publication has received support from all sections of the society and I wish more success to it.”

VGP group head V G Santhosham in his greetings stated that the daily has been bringing news about industries and several other articles that encourage youngsters.

Similarly, CPI(M) State secretary K Balakrishnan and All India Muvendhar Munnani Kazhagam president N Sethuraman also extended their greetings.
