Chennai: Students applying for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) under-graduation courses may have to appear for NEET from this academic year, said Health Minister C Vijayabaskar.
It should have been put in place since last year. But now, with NEET being mandated, students opting for AYUSH courses should take up the entrance test, he said.
The Health Minister was speaking at the Egmore Institute of Child Health on Friday, where he inaugurated a creche for ICH, Government Ophthalmic Hospital and the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology employees’ children.
Vijayabaskar said the new medical college in Karur would have 150 seats and that the State has received order for adding 250 additional seats in Tirunelveli medical college.
“Oral assurance has been given for 100 more seats in Madurai medical college. In total, Tamilnadu will have 3,350 MBBS seats and we are also planning to increase the PG seats from 508,” he said.
ICH has built a therapy centre for hosting recreational activities and the Minister inaugurated a pneumatic sample transport system to ensure the results are not delayed.
