Puducherry: “Bedi has failed to bring in more funds for Puducherry from the Centre to carry out developmental works… and concentrating more on obstructing schemes than developmental works,” said Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy accusing the Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.

He further stated that if Bedi did not change her attitude another agitation by the party workers would be held. It is to be noted that the CM and his cabinet ministers held a week-long dharna outside the Raj Nivas in February this year to bring to focus Bedi’s negative stand.

Both the CM and Bedi have been at loggerheads over various government issues since she took over the post in 2016.

Speaking to party cadres at the PCC office yesterday, Narayanasamy asked them to be prepared for another round of protest against Bedi. “We fought against her legally and scored a victory with the Madras High Court holding that the Lt Governor cannot interfere with the routine activities of the elected government,” said the CM. He was referring to the order that was passed on 30 April.

On petitions by the Centre and Bedi challenging the order, the Supreme Court had on 4 June directed the Puducherry government not to implement till the next hearing any decision having financial implications in the 7 June Cabinet meeting.

Narayanasamy further claimed the people have shown their anger against the Lt Governor by supporting Vaithilingam of Congress.

Congress candidate V Vaithilingam saw a massive victory in the recently held Lok Sabha elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Puducherry. For more than 10 days now, Bedi is in Delhi in connection with the appeal in the apex court.
