Former Superintendent of Police A Kaliyamoorthy, VS Group of Hospitals chairman and managing director, Dr S Subramanian, and actor John Vijay during cancer survivors meet in Chennai, Monday.

Chennai: We are ready to face any kind of challenge cancer might throw at us and can confidently say we can defeat it, said V S Group of Hospitals chairman and managing director, Dr S Subramanian.

He was speaking at an interaction, ‘Hope’, organised by VS Medical Trust for cancer survivors, here Monday.

“I have the unique privilege of being a close-quarter witness to the frustrating early days of oncology and the rapid progress the specialty has made in the information era. Such a ‘survivors’ meet with so many in attendance would not have been a possibility a few decades ago, but today it is real,” said Dr Subramanian.

“However, in my 50 years of medical practice, it has always been the bravest and those filled with hope who have managed to beat this disease in the days of inadequate medical facilities. Today, we are ready to face any kind of challenge cancer might throw at us and can confidently say we can defeat it,” he said.

In India, breast, oral and lung cavities cancer account for 25 per cent mortality in men and women. They can be prevented if screened at an early stage, said actor John Vijay, the chief guest of the event.
