Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M K Stalin has said they would not press for the no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Assembly complex this morning, Stalin said they were withdrawing the no-confidence motion notice. This was because, he elaborated, the circumstance had changed.
We wanted to bring in the motion given the situation then, but we are withdrawing it now, explained Stalin.
Last month Stalin, the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, sent a letter to the Assembly secretary proposing a no-confidence motion against Dhanapal.
Winning 13 seats in the recent by-elections, the DMK strength in the 234-member Assembly has gone up to 100. The ruling AIADMK has the support of 123 MLAs.
