Bengaluru: A day after a group of Congress leaders charged the JD(S) for poor performance in the recently held elections, the party’s National President H D Deve Gowda yesterday said he was pained by their comments.
Speaking to reporters, he said that this was said at a meeting in the presence of AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal. This has come out in the media accusing JDS of back stabbing.
He further noted that Congress leaders had come to him after the May 2018 assembly polls hung verdict and wanted his son H D Kumaraswamy to lead the coalition government even though he had suggested Mallikarjun Kharge’s name.
Recently, senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily also slammed the JDS Congress tie up calling it a mistake. He blamed the tie up for his defeat in Chikkaballapura.
On Friday, Gowda had indicated that a Dalit leader from the party was likely to be the next State unit chief and the decision would be taken on 11 or 12 July. “We have not declared state unit President and youth wing president today…Thimmarayappa (MLA) also is there, former Minister H K Kumaraswamy is also there. There is nothing that those who have won have to be given or those who have lost should not be given (the post). I will decide, I have been given that independence,” Gowda said.
Also on Thursday, Gowda had appointed former minister Leeladevi R Prasad as the president of party state women’s wing.
