Chennai: Motorists and pedestrians going through the four-way intersection where Ananda Road and Bawa Road meets Bheemanna Garden Road are facing an ordeal task to pass through the stretch as it has become an accident-prone zone with speeding vehicles coming from all the sides.

It is a busy junction which is used by people to go to Abhiramapuram, Mowbray Road and CV Raman Road and with no traffic signals or traffic police to regulate traffic, people at least want a speed breaker to be put up at the earliest.

Speaking about the problem, Charanya, a resident of Anandha Road says, “When I see people drive through the stretch, I don’t see them having the patience to stop and cross. There are two schools nearby and a lot of students cross the stretch. With the vehicles coming at high speed, it is causing a lot of threat and uneasiness to the pedestrians in this particular junction. A speed-breaker is much needed here for the safety of the pedestrians.”

“It is very difficult to ride two-wheelers on this stretch, even when we use the horn, the big vehicles plying the stretch never really care and pass through the junction in a good speed. If there is a speed-breaker or at least a traffic police to guide the motorists, it will be very helpful,” says Deepa, a resident of Bhava Road.

Some residents allege that accidents are happening frequently here and despite repeated requests, no steps have been taken to make the junction safe. “For the past 25 years I have been living here and this is always a problem. All the vehicles, be it cars, auto and two-wheelers without even knowing that there is an intersection here, pass through the stretch at high speeds, accidents are always a common sight. We have given several complaints to put up a speed breaker but no action has been taken so far.”

He adds that the police from the Abhiramapuram Police station which was earlier located close to the stretch would come to assist the motorists when needed.

“Since the police station has been shifted, there is no one to assist the motorists, at least the Chennai Traffic police must deploy men here or either a traffic signal or speed breakers are the need of the hour.”
