Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s move to construct new Secretariat and legislature buildings has been strongly opposed by the opposition Congress. The ruling TRS government and Congress in Telangana were at loggerheads over the issue yesterday.

V Srinivas Goud, TRS leader and State minister, slammed the Congress for opposing the government’s move and said,Ā “You did not build anything. You have sold off the existing ones.” He further added that Congress was creating a furore when buildings are proposed to be built in available space.

The Congress Monday voiced strong opposition to TRS government’s move to construct new buildings here, saying the existing ones were in good condition, having been constructed only about 30 years ago.

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs and other leaders said that there were more pressing issues to be focused on other than the construction of new buildings. Senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy said when Kaleswaram project was being re-designed, it reminded one of Tughlak rule.

Speaking to reporters, he said there cannot be a bigger mad action than demolishing assembly buildings. This would not be hailed by the people and that Chandrasekar Rao cannot misuse public money with his VastuĀ madness.

The new Secretariat buildings would be built at a cost of Rs 400 crore at the existing complex housing several blocks near the Hussain Sagar lake. The new legislature buildings are said to come up at Errum Manzil complex in the city.
