Chennai: Praising AIADMK-led Tamilnadu government for the 69 per cent reservation and reacting to apprehensions of political parties, including DMK, regarding the quota, the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) yesterday said backward classes or any other communities would not be affected by the 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections.
Speaking to reporters, NCBC Chairman Bhagwan Lal Sahni said it was commendable that Tamilnadu was working for the development of backward class students and urged other States to replicate the model. Sahni and his team are on their maiden visit to the southern States.
He further said the NCBC was working on requests from certain castes for inclusion in the Central OBC list. The members of the commission have also sought clarification on the constitutional status of the state backward class commission.
It is to be noted that ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Centre had cleared a 10 percent job and education quota for economically weaker sections.
