Chennai: Motorists plying through Anna Nagar Roundtana signal have been waiting for a long time to get green light on.

“For more than five years, a part of Second Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Third Avenue has been converted as one way for the construction underground metro rail project. During that time, there was no much traffic and no waiting,” says, Sankar, a motorist.

“To cross both the signals at Third Avenue-Fourth Avenue junction (Shanthi Colony signal) and Second-Third Avenue junction (Roundtana signal), we are waiting for more than 15 minutes. The number of vehicles passing through these signals have increased and no steps were taken to solve the problem,” he said.

Kannan, another motorist, said, “We request the police officials to divert and make this route as one way. Travelling for another 800 meters will solve the entire traffic problem over here. When compared to fuel consumption, it is better to travel extra distance instead of waiting for more than 20 minutes.”

He also mentioned that the police has taken steps to install cameras and fine the traffic violators. We don’t know why they are not concentrating on diverting traffic in the routes and solve our problems, he added.

Sumathi, who came for shopping said, “We don’t have enough space for parking our vehicle. If these avenues are converted into one way, it would be helpful for all.”

“It’s really horrible during peak hours to wait for a long in both the signals. Many times I asked my driver to come home and just walked from this signal to my house near Crescent ground, Shenoy Nagar,” Sumathi added.

A traffic policeman said, “We will raise this issue with our higher officials. Hopefully they would can make it an one-way on trial basis.”
