Chennai: For quite some time, the road users passing through 2nd Main Road, Anna Nagar have to be more cautious for the electricity junction box on the road side is kept open posing a serious threat.

“It’s a nightmarish experience for the road users especially during nights since the presence of the stretched out poles are not visible due to poor lighting,” Lakshman a resident of Annai Nagar said.

At times, incidences of some motorists hitting the road very near to the open junction box also occurred, he said, adding that it should be rectified before it turned out to be a fatal.

“Even a small spark make the junction box catching fire for it is open always,” another resident Sethu said. “Since its raining nowadays, anyone who goes near the junction box can get electric shock,” he added.

“In the evenings many kids are playing in the street since it’s a residential area,” a homemaker Seetha said. We have to keep an eye on them as there are many junction boxes are kept open in the stretch, she added.

“We have sent representations to the concerned authorities but nothing happened so far, she said. When contacted, an EB official said actually we are replacing the damaged junction boxes. Following this we are planning to install new junction boxes with safety measures by fencing it. However, he assured that the door open will closed and steps taken to tie it with iron hooks.
