M Manikandan

Chennai: Mobile app, TikTok has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Tamilnadu Minister for Information Technology, M Manikandan told the Assembly that the government would take steps through the Centre to get the app banned.

The app had recently faced a ban and was later revoked. Viewing seriously media reports on deaths and dangerous stunts by the app users, the Minister said the AIADMK government would once again write to the Centre seeking ban of the Chinese app.

The minister further pointed out that power to allow or block an app vested with the Central government and any move to get an app removed from public use should be through the Computer Emergency Response Team based in Delhi and a nodal officer functioned from Tamilnadu also.

The TN government had in February taken measures to get the app banned and the matter was taken to Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench. But the ban imposed was lifted after the firm agreed to toe conditions and not allow anything against our culture.
