TN to set up Tamil lab in Banaras Hindu University

Chennai: K Pandiarajan, Tamilnadu Minister for Culture and Tamil Official Language, yesterday announced in the Assembly that a language lab would be set up in the Banaras Hindu University.

Rs 9.60 lakh will be allotted for the purpose and this will help teach Tamil quickly to other language people. The minister further informed that tuition and hostel fee of students who opt to learn Tamil as second language in the university would be provided by the State government, and Rs 1.85 lakh will be allotted for this.

Pandirajan said the government would offer Rs 30 lakh for training on Tamil learning through grammar and literature to both Tamil language teachers and students in Fiji and British Guiana. Steps to get recognition for Tamil classic Thirukkural as a World Book through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), would be initiated, he said.
