Met department forecasts heavy rain in parts of Tamilnadu

Chennai: Heavy rain is likely to occur at some places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry area today, says the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

It has been drizzling in several parts of Chennai and the suburbs from last night. It has been heavy in some parts of the city.

According to the RMC website, the forecast for the next 24 hours for Chennai and the surrounding areas is that the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 36 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rain is also forecast for the Nilgiris areas in the Western Ghats, and a few places in Coimbatore, Theni and Tirunelveli districts.

The Indian Meteorological Department website says a cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and south Odisha coast and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. This is likely to bring more rain to Tamilnadu.

Chinnakalar (Coimbatore) – 9
Valparai Pto (Coimbatore district), Solaiyar (Coimbatore district) – 7 each
Valparai Taluk Office (Coimbatore district) – 5
Poondi (Tiruvallur district), Devala (Nilgiris district) – 4 each
Periyar (Theni district), Karaikudi (Sivaganga district), Naduvattam (Nilgiris district), Tozhudur (Cuddalore district) – 2 each
Gudalur (Theni district), Parangipettai (Cuddalore district), Thirumanur (Ariyalur district), Pollachi (Coimbatore district), G Bazar (Nilgiris district), Thamaraipakkam (Tiruvallur district), Sivagiri (Tirunelveli district), Lower Kothaiyar Arg (Kanyakumari district) – 1 each

Rainfall in Chennai recorded till 8.30 this morning was 7.8 mm.

The action follows allegations that the student died due to medical negligence during treatment for a nasal blockage condition.
