Chennai: A woman has been arrested by the city police for cheating several other women of Rs 30 lakh.
According to the police, Rekha, a resident of Triplicane, was taken into custody and is bring grilled. She is said to have promised many women jobs in the Electricity Board and taken money from them.
The police began investigations after a woman, identified as Kanchana (40) of Chepauk, filed a complaint that Rekha claimed to be a policewoman and said she knew higher officials in the Tamilnadu Electricity Board.
She took Rs 9 lakh from Kanchana, assuring her a job, and Rs 21 lakh from Kanchana’s friends. Kanchana filed a complaint after Rekha failed to get her a job and also refused to return the money. Further inquiries are under way.
