Chennai: One of the biggest problems that devotees coming to Madambakkam Dhenupureeswarar Temple face is the lack of a proper toilet facility.

Despite the construction of restrooms a few years ago, it is alleged that these have not been put to use.

“I visit this shrine regularly. Whenever I attend the special poojas here, I end up standing in the queue for over two hours. At the time, I have always felt the need to use a restroom, after the event is over,” said Karthik, a resident.

Even as many devotees request a temporary bio-toilet, there is one which is already constructed just outside the premises, but has not been opened yet.

Speaking to News Today, sources said, “With almost 90 per cent of the work completed, the first contractor quit due to unknown reasons. After that, fresh tenders were floated and the construction of the restroom completed. But it is a mystery why it has not been put to use yet.”
