Chennai: In what has come as good news to residents of the locality, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced that a flyover will be constructed at Selaiyur and a foot overbridge at Tambaram, as part of the Traffic Decongestion project.
He was responding to Tambaram MLA S R Raja’s statement that flyover projects in Medavakkam, Keelkattalai and Velacheri are still not completed, leading to vehicular traffic on GST.
Palaniswami also said the four-lane GST Road between Perungalathur and Singaperumal Kovil would be converted into an eight-lane highway.
He further said detailed feasibility reports would be prepared on the possibility of constructing nine bridges and link roads.
Nearly 50 per cent of work on the construction of Medavakkam flyover has been completed now. The work commenced February 2016 at an estimated cost of Rs 146.41 crore. Officials noted that there were minor hiccups in its progress, as the previous contractor abandoned the work mid-way.
Of the 81 pillars that have to be erected on the Tambaram-Velacheri stretch, 76 have been completed. Similarly, work on 10 of the 31 pillars on the other side is also done.
