Chennai: “Not just Tamilnadu, but entire South India will oppose in case if Hindi is imposed on them,” said actor Rajinikanth today.
Speaking to reporters at the airport here, Rajinikanth said, “A common language is needed for development of the nation. Unfortunately, it is not possible to have a common language in a country like India. Not just Hindi, no language can be imposed on people. If Hindi is imposed, it will be opposed by Tamils and even those in other southern States.”
When asked about the death of techie who was killed in a road mishap after a banner erected on the median of a road fell on her in Pallikaranai, Rajinikanth said, “I have already instructed my fans not to erect banners or come up with hoardings or festoons.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s pitch for Hindi as a common link language met with criticisms from Opposition parties including the DMK, Congress, MDMK, and VCK. Makkal Needhi Maim chief Kamal Haasan even released a video condemning Amit Shah.
Stalin said, “they are continuously imposing Hindi and we are opposing it it all along. Thrusting of Hindi is being carried on in an autocratic fashion (by the Centre) despite opposition.”
“No Shah, Sultan or Samrat can suddenly break that promise. We respect all languages but our mother language will always be Tamil. Jallikattu was just a protest. The battle for our language will be exponentially bigger than that,” Kamal Haasan said.
