Lalithaa Jewellery heist: Murugan robbed 60 houses in Chennai


Chennai: N ‘Thiruvarur’ Murugan, the mastermind behind the Lalithaa Jewellery heist in Trichy on 2 October, has made some shocking revelations to the police.

A history-sheeter, Murugan told police that he was involved in as many as 60 robberies in Anna Nagar and surrounding areas in Chennai.

The city police recovered a four-wheeler used by him to carry out the robberies.

Days after the heist at Lalithaa Jewellery, Murugan had surrendered at a Bengaluru court on 12 October.

Another startling claim he made to the Bengaluru police was that he had paid a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to an Inspector of police in Chennai.

A senior police officer in Chennai said that they have not got any statement or letter from the Bengaluru police. However, an departmental inquiry would take place in this regard.

Regarding the robberies, police said that when Murugan was lodged in Puzhal Prison he made friends with seven other accused. The gang burgled houses in Anna Nagar, Nolambur, J J Nagar, Thirumangalam and Aminjikarai. The city police will conduct further inquiries into it.
