Chennai:Ā While the Indian Meterological Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in 32 districts of Tamilnadu, State Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management and Information Technology R B Udhayakumar has stated that the cyclone Maha formed in Arabian Sea will not affect Tamilnadu.
The Minister held a meeting this morning here to review monsoon-preparedness.
At the meeting he said that south Tamilnadu is likely to get light to moderate rains, and heavy rains in few places in the State as the cyclone is at Lakshadweep, south east Arabian Sea and Maldives and in the next 12 hours, it is likely to move towards north west direction in Lakshadweep.
The IMD has predicted that the cyclone is likely to turn severe and very severe.
As rains continued, Kodiveri dam near Erode and Kutralam have been cordoned off for visitors.
The Minister advised people to reach the nearest camp in case rain persists and intensifies. “People should take precautionary measures to safeguard from thunder and lightining.”
Fishermen from Tamilnadu have been warned not to venture into the sea. As the cyclone is in Kanyakumari, fisherfolks from Turynelveli and neighbouring 10 districts did not enter water. The inflow of Perunjani dam in Kanyakumari district increased and the outlfow has been increased to 4,000 cusec. ‘People need not fear the rains,’ said Udhayakumar.
Due to the calamity, 409 huts have been affected, informed the Minister.
During the meeting, the Minister also informed that a team is monitoring on the possibilities of occurrence of landslides in Tamilnadu and due to the intense rains in Thiruvallur, Thoothukudi, 97 people are currently lodged in four relief camps.

Met officials stated that a new low pressure will be formed in Andaman 4 November.
For Chennai, a release from the department stated that the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain/thundershower
is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 26 deg Celsius, respectively.
