Chennai: With so much talks about holding civic polls in the State, the Tamilnadu Cabinet met today.
Sources said the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, discussed the local body elections.
It is said subjects such as clearing the proposals of various companies which are keen to invest in Tamilnadu, policy decisions of multiple departments were discussed during the meet.
”Discussions were also held about the recent foreign visits by the Ministers and the various MoUs signed during the trips,” sources added.
Earlier this month, the Cabinet cleared expansion of industrial projects. According to reports, Palaniswami had discussed the mode of election of Mayors of municipal corporations and chairpersons of municipalities and town panchayats, which were reverted from indirect election to direct election last year.
Prior to the meeting, Palaniswami handed over appointment orders to seven people out of 41 new joinees in Tamilnadu Civil Supplies Corporation. They were given jobs based on compassionate grounds.
Minister R Kamaraj, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam, Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection Department Principal Secretary Dayanand Kataria and Tamilnadu Civil Supplies Corporation Managing director M Sudha Devi among others were present during the event.
Palaniswami also inaugurated various buildings constructed by Higher Education Department across Tamilnadu at a cost of Rs 82.94 crore through video conferencing from the Secretariat here.
He also inaugurated new facilities including the new electronic auditorium at the B M Birla Planetarium in Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 12.50 crore.
