Students of 2000 batch received shield at the Alumni Day celebrations of Sarada Vidyalaya School recently.

Chennai:An alumni association of a T Nagar school, has come in for praise from everyone.

For, the ”GEM” (Give Every Month) initiative, by the old students association of Sarada Vidyalaya Girls Higher Secondary School, has been contributing for the welfare of the institution, for several years now.

Speaking about this, Namagiri, one of the founding members of the forum and alumnus of the 1969 batch, said, “We are very much indebted to the school for providing us with not only quality education, but also imbibing values in us, which moulded our character”.

”As a token of our gratitude, we have launched the GEM scheme, wherein every member of the association can voluntarily join by way of setting aside Rs 100 every month as contribution, for supporting the activities of our institution. Like tiny drops make an ocean, this small contribution will pave way for development and implementation of various projects in the school”.

The alumni association has over 4000 members in its fold, and meets every January.

This year too, many came together in the said meeting and various welfare measures were given away on the occasion.

“Our forum was founded in 2013. Every year, we used to felicitate previous batch students and teachers”, she said.

Apart from this, the alumni members support the institution through endowment prizes and volunteers as guides under Value Education project initiated by Ramakrishna Mission, all over the country.

About the response to GEM concept, she said, Several people have joined and are contributing to this. Many of our members who reside abroad are also a part.

We are thankful to the management of the institution and Swamijis at the Ashramas for encouraging us at every step which motivates us to think forward in our mission, she concluded.

Namagiri can be reached at 98413 89310.
