Train coaches at Tambaram become covid-19 wards


Chennai: Five train coaches are being modified into covid -19 isolation wards at Tambaram in Chennai. The five coaches are being readied at ICF and will be brought here, sources said.

Following the covid-19 outbreak, the Indian Railways began working with the government on making a prototype of isolation wards using non air-conditioned train coaches.

The Southern Railways had asked its divisions to spare a few train coaches which could be converted into isolation berths. The coaches will house for patients, medical supplies, consultation rooms and a changing room for doctors.

The middle berth in the compartments will be removed and the bathrooms will be fitted with better facilities. The Perambur carriage works shed is making the modifications to the coaches.
