Chennai: After its request to the ruling AIADMK to convene an all party meeting to discuss the coronavirus preventive measures was rejected, the Principal Opposition DMK has convened an all party meeting on 15 April.
A DMK release on Sunday night said that the meeting would discuss about the handling of the corona pandemic by the Central and the State governments.
The meeting would be held at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam at 10 am on Wednesday. Leaders of DMK allies, including the Congress, MDMK, VCK, the left parties, IUML and others were expected to participate in the meeting.
It may be noted that DMK President and Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly M K Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to convene an all party meeting to wage an united fight against the spread of the corona pandemic.
But Palaniswami rejected the demand stating that the State government was taking all steps on a war footing to combat the spread of the COVID-19 and accused the DMK of trying to politicise it. Late last week, there was a statement war between Palaniswami and Stalin, after the latter accused the former-led government of not taking coronavirus relief and preventive measures in an effective manner.
