Chennai:Ā On a day when the Tamilnadu government announced extension of lockdown till 30 April, the number of coronavirus cases in the State rose to 1173, with 98 new cases today.
This was informed to the media by Health Secretary Beela Rajesh. Out of the 98 fresh cases, 91 were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat conference in New Delhi.
She said that 63,380 persons have completed quarantine and out of 2091 tested results which arrived today, only 98 were tested positive. Earlier today, in deference to the suggestions made from various quarters, the Tamilnadu government announced extension of the lockdown in the State till April 30 to prevent spread of coronavirus.
In a statement, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said based on the suggestions given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the CMs meet through video-conferencing and based on the views of WHO and recommendations of the 19-member medical expert panel, the State Cabinet, which met on April 11, has decided to extend the prohibitory orders under Sec 144 CrPc and under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, till April 30.
