Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said shops selling essentials like groceries, vegetables and fruits would be allowed to remain open for extended hours from 6 am to 5 pm tomorrow only to enable people to get their purchase.
He, however, said from 1 May, these shops would only be open from 6 am to 1 pm, as has been followed earlier.
Since the coronavirus would spread easily and speedily from one person to other, he appealed to the people not to show any urgency and maintain patience while purchasing their essentials by wearing face masks and following social distancing norms.
So far the virus has claimed 25 lives in the State. A total of 2,058, people have tested positive, including highest ever one day spike of 121 yesterday, with the densely populated Chennai emerging at the top, with 673 cases, including 103 cases yesterday, which was also highest reported on a single day.
