Chennai: The State police are ensuring that the lockdown is followed without violations by arresting close to four lakh persons.

It is said that to ensure ā€˜no movement’, police are carrying stringent vehicle checks. According to the DGP’s office 3,66,430 violations were recorded and nearly 3,86,509 persons were arrested for defying orders of the lockdown. Police filed FIRs against them.

Around 3,25,851 vehicles were seized by the police and a fine amount of Rs 3,76,35,719 was collected from violators.

It is said that the seized vehicles are being returned to owners in a phased manner. Since the lockdown on 24 March, people are restricted from venturing out of their houses for non-essential errands.
